Hackney Classes
Entries will be judged on soundness, conformation, quality, style, action, manners and pace. To be shown in harness. Please note Clauses 8 and 23 in the Conditions.
All horses / ponies must be registered in the studbook of the UK Hackney Horse Society or of a recognised Hackney Society abroad, and all exhibitors must be members of the Hackney Horse Society. Minimum age of driver in open and novice classes will be 14 years at date of show.
The first and second prize winners in Classes 44 and 48 will qualify to compete at the Horse and Pony of the Year Championships. If one or both of these has already qualified, the third prize winner will qualify.
Entry Fee: £40.50.

- Class 38 Novice Hackney Pony
- Novice Hackney Pony, stallion, mare or gelding, not exceeding 14hh. To be eligible for a Novice class the exhibit may not have been a Novice Champion at an Annual Breed Show or Novice Hackney Horse or Pony of the Year. An animal can only be a Novice for three seasons from the start of their first show (not consecutive seasons).
- Prizes: £52; £31; £26; £21; £11; £11.
- Class 41 Novice Hackney Horse
- Novice Hackney Horse, stallion, mare or gelding, exceeding 14hh. To be eligible for a Novice class the exhibit may not have been a Novice Champion at an Annual Breed Show or Novice Hackney Horse or Pony of the Year. An animal can only be a Novice for three seasons from the start of their first show (not consecutive seasons).
- CHALLENGE CUP, presented in memory of Major General Sir John Hanbury Williams, GCVO, KCB, CMG, by the late Miss G F Hanbury Williams, MVO.
- Prizes: £52; £31; £26; £21; £11; £11.
- Class 44 Open Hackney Pony
- Open Hackney Pony, stallion, mare or gelding, not exceeding 14hh.
- CHALLENGE TROPHY, presented in memory of Mrs N C Tufnell by the late Captain Michael Tufnell, CVO, DSC, RM, and the late Major Timothy Tufnell, MC, ERD.
- Prizes: £52; £31; £26; £21; £11; £11.
- Special Awards for the Best Exhibit driven by an amateur: £10; £5.
- Class 48 Open Hackney Horse
- Open Hackney Horse, stallion, mare or gelding, exceeding 14hh.
- Prizes: £52; £31; £26; £21; £11; £11.
- Special Awards for the Best Exhibit driven by an amateur: £10; £5.
- Hackney Championship
- The winner to be considered Champion Hackney of the Show. To be judged in the Castle Arena from the 1st and 2nd prize-winners in Classes 38,41, 44 and 48. Class prize-winners eligible for the Championship must compete or forfeit their class prize money.
- HALLENGE CUP, presented by Horlicks Limited, and the Hackney Horse Society's Championship rosette to the best Hackney Pony.
- CHALLENGE CUP, presented by Harry Hall Limited, and the Hackney Horse Society's Championship rosette to the best Hackney Horse.
- Champion: £105. Reserve Champion: £52.
- Amateur Single Hackney Championship
- For the Best Horse or Pony in single harness to be driven by an amateur, open only to 1st and 2nd special prize-winners in Classes 44 and 48. To be judged within the Hackney Championship.
- CHALLENGE CUP, presented by the late Colonel Sir Henry Abel Smith, KCMG, KCVO, DSO, and the Hackney Horse Society's Special rosette.
- Champion £45; Reserve Champion £30.
