Local riders to appear at Royal Windsor Horse Show

Several Buckinghamshire-based show jumping riders will be appearing close to home soil at one of the most prestigious competitions in the calendar, Royal Windsor Horse Show, 7-11 May.

Among those lining up for the feast of show jumping which takes place against a backdrop of Windsor Castle are several of the country’s leading riders and trainers who are based in the county.

Those leading the charge for spoils over more than 12 hours of national show jumping competition being held on Wednesday 7 May, will be Simon Davies (Holmer Green), John Crippen (Asheridge, Chesham), Simon Crippen (Penn), Caroline Black (Gerrards Cross), Fran and Sue Callan (High Wycombe), Lana Junak (Beaconsfield), Emma Jo Slater (Priestwood), Jade Hall (Wycombe), Kim Ashley (Chalfont St Giles) and Amanda McGlynn (Aylesbury).

They will join riders from across the UK and around the world for the spectacular event which brings together the sports of show jumping, international driving and showing, as well as displays and entertainment for all the family. As part of the build up to the European Show Jumping Championships which will be held here in 2009, this year sees a return of top class international show jumping. Leading riders from Ireland, Belgium, France, Spain and Russia will compete against Britain’s best riders in some hot competition, the highlight of which will be a six-bar contest.
This edge-of-seat class will be the feature event in a packed daytime Saturday of entertainment in the Castle Arena where other highlights include seeing some of the world’s leading show jumpers in action alongside traditional favourites such as the thrills and spills of the DAKS Pony Club Mounted Games, the Shetland Pony Grand National and the crowd pleasing ridden Mountain and Moorland championship.

This year for the first time, the day’s action will be followed by the evening Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo which will be held in the shadow of the floodlit Windsor Castle.

Penny Henderson, show secretary at Royal Windsor Horse Show said: “The National show jumping classes are proving very popular as are the showing classes, which are packed. Unfortunately we have had to turn riders away such was the premium on places. This is a very prestigious show and as the first major outdoor competition of the season, everyone wants to come and join in.”
